Solarpunk Enterprises gives forests a digital identity so they can be recognised and paid for the services they provide to the economy. Our pilot forest in Costa Rica already holds one.

Meet the pilot forest How it works

Valuing a forest only by its timber is a catastrophic data failure.

This fractured valuation model ignores 99% of the asset's true services and creates systemic, unpriced risk for the entire economy.

Today, the value of forest ecosystems is narrowly defined by the commercial worth of their timber. This limited view leads to deforestation, undermining the vital ecological roles forests play: from carbon sequestration and biodiversity to water purification and climate regulation.

How it works

Three steps turn a forest's work into value it can earn, and the income goes back into protecting it.

  1. Give the forest a digital identity

    We create a digital identity for each forest: an NFT that records what makes that forest unique. It stays with the forest's owner.

  2. Measure its services and mint tokens

    Each year we measure how much carbon the forest has added, with our science-based Stored Carbon Increment (SCI) methodology. Tokens minted on the forest's NFT represent that year's increment: one tonne of CO2 per token.

  3. Lease the forest's services

    Companies lease the forest's capacity to store their emissions and pay the forest for it. Their tokens record how much CO2 they stored. The income is reinvested in the forest's protection and monitoring.
